Paines Plough is delighted to be hosting its first series of Producer workshops at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Here at Paines Plough we are always looking for ways to demystify how we go about commissioning, producing and touring new plays, in order to provide support for theatre makers at any stage of their careers.

Join Paines Plough’s Senior Producer Hanna Streeter and Producer Francesca Moody for a Q&A that will help you look beyond the Fringe and begin your journey into touring. Sharing their invaluable experience and insight on touring theatre, Hanna and Francesca will tell you what it takes, how it works, their top tips and the odd “The van broke down on the motorway” story…

Nadine Rennie Casting Workshop

Casting Director Nadine Rennie, of Soho Theatre, joins us in Roundabout for a morning Q&A . Having worked with Writers from Dennis Kelly to Shelagh Stevenson, and Directors from Max Stafford Clark to Roxanna Silbert, Nadine has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.

Whether you’re a budding young Casting Director, or an actor looking to find out more about the process and get advice, come along and join us for a morning of insight into casting.
Nadine has been Casting Director at Soho Theatre for the last ten years; working on new plays by writers including Dennis Kelly, Roy Williams, Shelagh Stevenson, D C Moore, Steve Thompson, Vicky Jones and Oladipo Agboluaje. Directors she has worked with include Rufus Norris, Roxanna Silbert, Indu Rubasingham, Michael Buffong, Max Stafford Clark, Paulette Randall, Tim Crouch and Steve Marmion.

Freelance work includes BAFTA winning CBBC series DIXI (casting all three series to date) Nadine also has a long running association as Casting Director for Synergy Theatre Project.

Nadine is a member of the Casting Directors Guild.

Borderlines – Asylum Monologues

“This waiting for the Home Office to decide – me, I always say that it is a diplomatic form of torture … they are torturing us mentally, and that’s the worst.” As part of Borderlines, a multi-arts programme engaging with issues at the heart of today’s society, Beyond Borders proudly presents ice&fire Theatre with a rehearsed reading of its new verbatim script exploring the experience of asylum seekers in Scotland. The stories follow refugees and asylum seekers on their journey across many walls and borders as they travel to our backyard – and the hurdles they continue to face once they arrive here. Each performance will be followed by a short Q&A.

A Pickering’s Gin Jolly

The stage is set. Join us for a tour of Summerhall Distillery as we raise the curtain on how award-winning Pickering’s Gin is made. We’ll meet you in the Summerhall courtyard before introducing you to the curvaceous delights of our stills, Gert and Emily. If you’re lucky you may even see them in action. There’s also room for audience participation: you’ll get to sample our full range of gin, metres from where it was distilled, before enjoying a complementary Pickering’s and tonic straight from the gin tap back at the Airstream Cocktail Bar.
