Emballage refers to Tadeusz Kantor’s concept of wrapping, a utilitarian action taken from the most mundane reality of everyday life. This outcome of an imaginative reworking of the Richard Demarco Archive is supported by Leeds Beckett University’s PhD research programme. The piece is informed by the work of Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramovic, Rose Finn-Kelcey and Bobby Baker, while exploring Shakespeare’s Macbeth along with the autobiographical, archival narratives of the performers and the audience participants. Audience members are encouraged to participate in the performance-installation, to navigate the spaces as they wish and to share memories from their own archives.
